Fort Wayne Shopping

(Try keyword "Women's Fashions" or a ZIP code)

Allen County's Fort Wayne -- where Gen. Anthony "Mad Anthony" Wayne built a fort in 1812 -- provides a mad, mad, mad, mad world for shopping sprees, some with a decidedly historical bent. As members of the Fort Wayne Antique Dealers Association, 17 shops and malls throughout town include Calhoun Street's Finders Keepers and Anthony Boulevard's Retroactive. Meticulous dresser that he was, Wayne picked up the "Dandy" nickname long before becoming "Mad Anthony" ... leaving it to speculation that, had he not died at 51 after an attack of gout, he would heartily approve distant prospects of Glenbrook Square. As the Hoosier State's largest retail destination, Glenwood sparkles with 175 specialty shops, a dozen restaurants, and department stores such as L.S. Ayres, JCPenney, and Sears. The Mediterranean-style open-air Jefferson Pointe Shopping Center, anchored by Von Maur and billing itself as "like none other in Fort Wayne," has dozens of shops, courtyards, and restaurants including Biaggi's Ristorante Italiano, and an 18-screen stadium seating theater.

Stoner's Funstore rents and sells costumes, clown props, gag gifts, and videos produced by comedian Dick Stoner. Home Grown Bead & Candle Shoppe stocks locally crafted items from jewelry to soy candles. Orchard Gallery of Fine Art, owned and staffed by artists for more than two decades, displays paintings, pottery, glass, photography and more by some 45 artisans. Noble Drive's family-based Cookie Cottage offers in town delivery for gourmet treats from Double Chocolate Raspberry Cream to Snickerdoodle. Bargain hunters can check out Fairfield Avenue's Salvation Army Thrift Store, Coliseum Boulevard's Goodwill Industries, Main Street's Business Furniture Outlet, and Pearl Street's Perfection Bakery Outlet Store. For tight times, Calhoun's B&B Loan has operated as a pawn brokerage on most anything of value for nearly 60 years.
